Wow, that must be a recording of ...Nottingham Fair?
Wow, that must be a recording of "Paddy Backwards", one of my favorite nonsense songs!
None of the versions I've heard so far retained the real name of the town.

I've heard various corruptions, such as Nottamun Town, Adam Ham Town and so on, but never the uncorrupted name, so I'm really looking forward to this giving this variant a listen!

Oh well, it's a shame, this filesharing service, Adrive, simply refuses to let me download the file...

I always get a "Public File Busy" message, and I've kept refreshing the page for roughly 5 hours now...

Is there anything I can do to get the download to work without the need to pay for an account?HillMarlinerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10809414712555470184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6365364965833913481.post-52523887131841610482012-06-10T03:46:10.857-07:002012-06-10T03:46:10.857-07:00hi..tryin to get this for a couple of days now ..b...hi..tryin to get this for a couple of days now ..but its always 'busy'....do you have to pay for an account? ..if so will you be using this account much?...cheers for all the lovely stoff...cAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6365364965833913481.post-67491986542493872432012-06-09T14:05:25.210-07:002012-06-09T14:05:25.210-07:00thanks again!thanks again!walkingtreeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14012432791304560616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6365364965833913481.post-76199003414672953852012-06-08T17:39:47.465-07:002012-06-08T17:39:47.465-07:00Wonderful! Interestingly, ther...Thank you so much for this!!

Interestingly, there were two different volumes released the Library of Congress until the title "Anglo-American Ballads," as AFS L1 and AFS L7. Like the volume you have shared, these were originally (1942 and 1943) albums of 78s, then reissued on LP in the 1970s. In turn, these LPs were given more-or-less straight CD reissues in 1999 as Rounder 1511 and Rounder 1516. As with all of Rounder's Library of Congress series, these are out of print on CD (you can download MP3s from Rounders website, I believe--but you can't download the important liner notes).

The music in the LP you posted does not appear to overlap with the volumes I just described.

A lot of university libraries have complete editions of the LoC-released LPs; indeed, I think this was their intended audience. Would that some industrious guy or gal with some free time--who is attached to a university whose library has a generous lending policy--could make vinyl rips of the whole lot.Jonahnoreply@blogger.com
