Suni McGrath - Cornflower Suite (1969 -- Adelphi, AD1002S) 320 mp3 + Flac



"The music on this record is my attempt to explore and further the american acoustic guitar. I have four sources for the musics here presented: Bulgarian music for rhythmic modes and ideas, also modulation of melodic modes and harmonies; Hindustani for subtle melodic graces and ideas of variation, fahey for the conception of the art; Bartok for modal harmonies analogous to conventional western harmony, and treatment of themes." In my view, Fahey, Basho & McGrath are something of a holy trinity for american primitive solo guitar. Among them, McGrath is easily the least well-known. Cornflower Suite is his outstanding first LP. This is a fresh vinyl rip by yours truly. Enjoy.

    Stop the presses. I'm going to re up this rip in a matter of minutes with a couple of sequencing corrections. Looks like a couple tracks are tagged wrong. Sit tight!

    Aweseome! Love this album and i'm sure your rip will top the rather mediocre version i have, many thanks!

    Ok, i admit, i find Basho's music self-indulgent, boring, pompous and simply unbearable.

    McGrath, on the other hand, is, at least to my ears, easily the most accessible of your trinity of primitive guitar. All albums i've heared from him are wonderful.

    Mega. There is really trippy stuff happening here that spans classicism, folk, medieval textures, drone, all kinds of stuff. Could have been made right now in the context of the so-called 'new wyrd' stylings. Amazing.

    And so is my cool-boss Ghost Capital t-shirt which I proudly wear as this is being typed!

    This is great! My buddy also said it reminded him of Peter Lang. I particularly like the eastern-sounding stuff...which is my favorite Jack Rose/Pelt material as well.
