Ngozi Family- 45,000 Volts

Just digitized my copy of this amazing Zamrock classic, recently reissued on vinyl by No Smoke Records. Check the crucial Sabbath riffs by way of 70s Zambia. A must!

Just to say thanks for putting this and Zebby Tembo up. I have just returned from Zambia where I got heavily into the Witch and found your site through YouTube Witch videos. Love that Zamrock sound. Zikomo.

This album rocks, no doubt. But it rocks in the African Way... lousy English, raw guitars, not always perfectly in the mix... like I said: raw! That's how I like it.
Go get this album, before it sells out.

This is just so fantastic! I really had no idea that Africa had such a powerful and diverse musical past...as a South African I didn't even know stuff like this even existed! Thank you so much!

Hey, the music is awesome, thank you for that! I have one question: It seems to me that there is some kind of limiter/compressor used. You can hear a good example on "Night Of Fear", it starts with loud guitar tunes but as soon as the whole band drops in, the volume limits down. Did that happen in your ripping process or was it already on the original recording? You once wrote somewhere in your comments that you don't use filters and stuff but maybe it happened accidentally (new software, wrong settings or something)? I'm just asking because it kind of kills a lot of the dynamics of the music and if it isn't on the real recording I would ask you if you consider a new rip (knowing that this is a bold wish, but, well I try). I'm also asking because I consider buying one of these records (if I ever find one that I can afford, hehe).

you know- you're exactly right. this is one of my earlier vinyl rips- albeit from only about a year ago- and i think i had a auto volume limiter on when i was ripping it. that setting creates weirdness when the band's dynamics suddenly change. i'll definitely consider a re-rip in the nearish future, now that i know a bit more about what i'm doing.

Yay! That's good news, looking really forward to a new rip (the recent one is impossible to listen to as loud as the music deserves). I just saw that you also have their album with Chrissy Zebby Tembo here, more awesome music! Yay, again :)

Thanx a lot!

This rules! I was referred here by my brother Brian from Women In Prison. Totally killer, in spite of dynamics concerns. Thanks!

Anybody knows what happened to Paul Ngozi and other zamrockers?
