Abdel Halim Hafiz- Zay El Hawa (Soutelphan) عبدالحليم إسماعيل شبانة زي الهوا
Abdel Halim Ali Shabana (Arabic: عبدالحليم علي شبانة) commonly known as Abdel Halim Hafez (Arabic: عبد الحليم حافظ) (June 21, 1929 – March 30, 1977), is among the most popular and celebrated singers ever in Egypt and the Arab world...He is also widely known as el-Andaleeb el-Asmar (The Great Dark Skinned Nightingale, Arabic: العندليب الأسمر)..[and has also] earned such names as the King of Romance, King of Arabic music, The King of Emotions and Feelings, The Ambassador of Love, The Son of the Revolution and more...(Wikipedia)
Halim Hafiz's legendary performance of Zay El-Hawa ("It Feels Like Love"), released on Soutelphan Records. Can't read the Arabic on the album cover & I haven't pinned down the performance or release dates yet. Anyone? This song's lyrics are written by Mohamed Hamza & the music is composed by Baligh Hamdi. 320 vinyl rip by yours truly.

owl- a friend found a scanner curbside and brought it over. it works! trying to work on my photoshop skillz as any lp cover requires pieceing together two scans. btw- that soutelphan logo on the lp would make a decent t-shirt, no?
Thanks for posting some Abdel Halim. It's always nice to see when more people pick up on this wonderful Egyptian music.
Is this a live version or studio?
@isfahani- its live. very live.
Thanks. Most of the Abdel Halim CD versions - Excepting film tunes - are live... The only studio version I have heard so far is "Kariat el Finjan" anniversary ltd edition... I am always on the lookout for more, as the audio quality is noticeably better. Cheers!
Nice stuff. I believe "Zay el Hawa" should translate as "like the wind"
There is a studio version of the last song Abdel Halim recorded before dying...Habibati Men Takoon? (My love, who are you?). You can hear it online: http://www.7alim.com/
Enjoy
Abdul-Haleem Hafiz was not just a singer: for many Arabs, this man was a beacon of so-called 'Tarab'; or 'ecstatic listening'. His life was cut short by illness, seen on his face at later years. Many people (especially in Egypt where he hailed from), committed suicide after his death in late 70s.
All and all, Hafiz' song Zay Il Hawa (زي إلهوا), is translated as 'Like The Air'. Hawa is an Arabic word which means 'air' literally. Also, in Hebrew it means Love, but is pronounced as A-Hava. Air in poetic wordings of old Arabian literary works means 'Love', also, as it was considered something transient, non-stable, fleeting, etc. So, translation handy, it is a wordplay on Love itself all during the whole song, where the lover finds himself "Clutching Air In My Hands...", that is his lost love.
Most of Hafiz' songs were recorder/pressed as Live songs, some can stretch to an hour and a half, plus. It's how most of the Egyptian 70s' singers performed in large theaters back then.
Dig with a shovel, indeed.
H.H.
The link is dead. Could you reup, please?
