Farida Khanum- Meri Pasand Vol. 1 & 2 (EMI Pakistan)
"Farida Khanum has a distinctive style of singing. It is an attractive blend of ghazal gaayaki and tarannum (recitation), reflecting her training in classical music under the tutelage of such illuminaries as Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Ashique Ali Khan." (Urdupoetry.com.)
The classic ghazals of Pakistan's Farida Khanum are out-&-out astounding. Resonant mystical heartbreaks of the highest order. Perfect music. Just listen to the "Queen of the Ghazal".

Lovely, Nick! She is so expressive.
I've been listening to a lot of tough flamenco recently, and oddly enough there's a lot of similarity. Emotion-wise, anyway!
hi from greece, thanks...
Wow! You really are all over the place. I love your blog, which I found by accident. I plan to return often. My blog is all over the place, too, but not the same way yours is. Greetings from Boston.
This was an unexpected pleasure. I listened to both disks at one sitting, starting with breakfast this morning. What an enjoyable way to start the day!
Thank you for sharing this. While I listen to a lot of music from India and the Middle East, I don't usually seek out music from Pakistan. Now I will be more attentive in my cyber travels.
